Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Breast surgery · implant assessment · revision

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

His breast practice is planned from measurement rather than from a size request. In an assessment for implant revision that means establishing breast base width, tissue pinch thickness, nipple position relative to the fold, skin quality and chest-wall symmetry, and then deciding whether the problem is the implant, the capsule, the pocket or the skin — because those are four different operations and only one of them is an exchange.

Dr. Mao discusses device lifetime at the first appointment rather than the last. Implants are not lifetime devices, exchange at some point is likely, surveillance imaging is recommended for gel implants, and the capsule can contract. Patients who are told this early tend to make better decisions, including decisions not to operate, and he regards an assessment that ends in a recommendation against surgery as a consultation that worked.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of firmness, distortion, pain and suspected rupture in an implanted breast
  • Implant exchange, capsulectomy and pocket revision within a tertiary hospital
  • Removal with or without replacement, including planning for the shape that follows
  • Breast lift and augmentation-mastopexy where tissue has changed after previous surgery
  • Implant surveillance, device records and long-term follow-up

A revision is a decision, not a repair

A second operation can improve a great deal, and it cannot undo the first one. It carries its own risks, its own recovery and its own scar, and there are patients for whom the honest recommendation is to observe a stable finding rather than to operate on it. That recommendation is a result of the assessment, not a refusal to help.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Centre leadership · surgical standards

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Center Director of the Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending at Chongqing West District Hospital and leads the four-doctor team in which Dr. Mao practices. His role is the guarantee that an individual surgeon's plan sits inside a departmental system rather than beside it.

For a patient with an implant problem that system is what makes the safety arrangements checkable: access to diagnostic imaging and pathology, anaesthesia delivered by hospital teams, intensive care support in the building, and a review schedule that continues after the operation rather than ending with it.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical standards for revision and implant-related operations
  • Hospital-based support when an implant problem needs urgent surgical care
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Team physician · assessment and follow-up

Dr. Ke He is a physician in the Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending at Chongqing West District Hospital and a member of the four-doctor team alongside Dr. Mao, supporting the assessment and follow-up of surgical patients.

In a revision pathway her work is the interval between noticing a change and deciding what to do about it: reviewing a breast that has become firm, distinguishing ordinary post-operative swelling from a collection, recognising the skin signs that suggest infection, and making sure a patient who is worried is seen rather than reassured by telephone alone.

Clinical focus

  • Assessment of a breast that has changed after implant surgery
  • Recognition of infection, collections and skin changes needing same-day care
  • Follow-up across the weeks when the result is still obscured by healing
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Team physician · surveillance and continuity

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a physician in the Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending at Chongqing West District Hospital and a member of the four-doctor team alongside Dr. Mao, supporting the perioperative and follow-up care of surgical patients.

His contribution to a revision pathway is continuity across the years: keeping the device record and surveillance schedule in order, reviewing a breast that changes shape or becomes firm, and making sure a new lump is assessed as a clinical question in its own right rather than assumed to be related to the implant.

Clinical focus

  • Maintaining the device record and the surveillance schedule
  • Review of a breast that changes shape, size or firmness over time
  • Assessment of a new lump as a clinical question of its own

Worried about an implant, or weighing up a revision?

Contact the team to have the breast assessed. A revision is a decision with a work-up behind it rather than an appointment to book in a hurry, and an assessment may conclude that no operation is needed.
